Back in 1990, before emails and Web Sites, Energy Saving Light Bulbs where around for almost ten years and had only a dozen designs. They were still not readily available to the general public and information or facts on these energy saving bulbs was very hard to find. EELC, the Environmental, Energy and Lighting division of B and B Ventures, Incorporated under Bill Lauto started the Light Bulb Hot Line phone number to address those exact issues.
Soon afterwards, the Hot Line received praise from Ralph Nader, Consumer Advocate; Mark Green, former Consumer Affairs NYC; and was published in Consumer Report Magazine. Also in 1990 Bill Lauto was the Energy Advisor to the Earth Day Committee in New York City for the twentieth anniversary. Eventually our telephone Hot Line merged into our Energy Hotwire web site and now there are hundreds of different designs available as energy saving light bulbs.
Many times members or clients told us that they went looking for an energy saving bulb in a certain design, such as three-ways or candelabra shape, outside floods, decorative globe, soft pink color and were told it was not made.
The reality...The store or electrical supply house didn't have that design to sell.
