Announcing Our First Money and
World Saving Inter-Active On-Line Workshop!

This Workshop topic is WATER: H2O - Water, an element essential to life on this Earth.
COVERING:
  • Why we need to STOP buying water in plastic bottles!
  • How much money stopping can save!
  • How much drinkable water do we really have for survival?
Visit our Lifetime Membership program for details, online class about water is available to all members. Please use the GTG Membership Link above to become a member or sign in if you are already a GTG Lifetime member. Thank you.

You will not be tested by me, but life may test your grandchildren.
Can you teach them what they need to know?
GOALS for this OnLine Membership Class:
Learn how to save Money, Health, Water and our World.

Learn about water pollutants; recycling and waste of plastic bottles; why buying bottled water pollutes the environment and wastes your money; healthier alternatives to bottled water; impact water bottles have on the environment

We have all polluted our waters, think about it:
  1. Do you buy water in plastic bottles?
  2. Have you ever dropped one piece of litter anywhere?
  3. Have you ever used chemical fertilizer?
  4. Do you use man made cleaners?
  5. Do you use toilet paper that has a color?

Contaminated water and levels of toxins are more of a concern now then ever before. Why? Because we know more about what is in our water than ever before. Today's equipment is sensitive enough to detect very low levels of compounds and chemicals. Our concern is  justified because the following traces of toxin have been recently found in our water: Ibuprofen, Naproxen, anti-epileptic and anti-anxiety drugs to name a few Pharmaceutical chemicals. We have already been aware of what may be in old pipes, such as in-organics leaching from rust, copper or lead. In addition, build ups of organics can create an estuary-like environment supporting the life of pathogens such as E.coli.

Unfortunately, issues do not stop there. Our underground drinking water tables are becoming low as more and more people pump water out of the ground and there really isn't an equal amount of RECHARGE back into the ground anymore. Now let us build another "parking lot" and pave over more ground with an end result of more polluted Recharge of water into our Waterways.
Our underground drinking water tables are also infiltrated day after day with:
  • Acid Rain derived from air pollution
  • Toxic Waste from land fills
  • Chemical spills from Industry
  • Salt water from oceans near our shores
  • Gasoline from old leaking tanks at closed down gas stations
  • Nitrates, Pesticides, and Fertilizers from farms
  • Chlorine and Fluoride from Municipal Water Treatment
  • Human waste from individual houses with Septic tanks
Because of all of this, along comes Bottled Water. Yea! Isn't it amazing what some people will pay!
THE SOLUTION IS NOT BOTTLED WATER… THE SOLUTION IS US AND THE KNOWLEDGE WE SHARE!
TAKE OUR WATER WORKSHOP, IF NOT FOR YOURSELF OR THE WORLD, AT LEAST FOR YOUR GREAT GRAND KIDS.

Visit our Lifetime Membership program for details, online class about water is available to all members. Please use the GTG Membership Link above to become a member or sign in if you are already a GTG Lifetime member. Thank you.

Fuel Cell Breakthroughs

How would you like to own a car or ride a bus that operates 100% with a hydrogen fuel cell? Just announced news from chemists at the U.S, Department of Energy’s (DOE) Brookhaven National Laboratory presents that possibility as sooner rather than later.

My personal dream of a vehicle operating completely off of a safe, efficient, and affordable hydrogen fuel cell is one that separates hydrogen from water held in a tank instead of gasoline. The complete process occurs onboard as needed and the electricity necessary to initiate the process will be from solar panels built into the roof of the car along with a small backup storage battery. Byproduct: water vapor.

Think about this, a car that runs on water that you can collect for free from your roof, electricity made for free from the sun, no storage of hydrogen for safety, and drive long distances without gasoline, oil, fumes, smoke, noise, or pollution. That has been my "environmentally friendly dream car" since 1981 when I learned about NASA using 3 fuel cells aboard the space shuttle for all the shuttle’s power needs. Two of the three fuel cells were backups.

The above possibility may now be closer to reality than ever before, because of the research conducted at the DOE Brookhaven National Lab.

The issue with fuel cells is the current high cost to manufacture and operate. While NASA’s budget was able to handle the expense, the average car owner will never be able to afford this. Nevertheless, this vexing issue now has answers from the scientists at the DOE Brookhaven National Lab, but transferring these new breakthroughs from the lab to the road is another issue. Enter, Brookhaven’s Technology Transfer Office. They were able to secure funding for further research on the projects developing their innovative catalysts and fuel cell processes. Final step, find a partnership with automotive manufacturers to help run tests.

Elon Musk, I am sure you know about this research, but will you be involved with the testing? General Motors and Toyota are two companies collaborating with the researchers for years.

In addition to private investments to test, the scientists at DOE Brookhaven National Lab will also collaborate with Los Alamos National Laboratory for feedback on their work. If this work is approved in the testing and by consumers, future investors can step in to take Brookhaven’s team work out onto the blacktop for commercialization.

Now for the details:

Brookhaven National lab, brookhaven national laboratory, fuel cell, fuel cells, fuel cell cars, space shuttle fuel cells, elon musk, general motors, tesla, doe, department of energy, catalytic, catalysts, tungsten-nickel core catalysts, catalytic electrodes, platinum, going green, going true green, bill lautoBrookhaven National Lab
The scientists at DOE Brookhaven National Lab found the most costly part of a fuel cell were the catalysts made of platinum. This expensive metal is found in jewelry. Solid platinum catalysts have problems in tandem. In addition to the expense, they are highly corrosive and less efficient.

This dilemma has been solved by making catalysts use tiny nanoparticles of less expensive metals and surround them with thin platinum shell. Corrosion caused by the highly acidic results of chemical reactions within the fuel cell are decreased significantly, efficiency is improved and the costs is reduced when buying, repairing, or with a replacement.

Also a new method of development for making tungsten-nickel core catalysts has been presented. This method combines several steps of the manufacturing process to simplified electrode production. It reduces the cost of manufacturing electrodes with a semi-automated electrodeposition technique for the catalytic electrodes.

Team work, isn’t it amazing? Now only if we can get Washington to understand the concept that when you work alone for all the credit, everything goes wrong.

A U.S. Energy Plan; 2001

I wrote an article called, A U.S. Energy Plan, in December of 2000. The article provided some sound advice, facts and recommendations for our country’s energy plan. Then on May 30, 2001, I published this article as my first Blog on my EnergyHotwire.com website. This was before Blogs became really popular and before I knew html coding to post comments automatically. Nevertheless, I still have email comments that I received. Here are some comments from Yesteryear by two long-time followers since my first Blog post:

June, 2001:
I just read on your web site your U. S. Energy Plan and I was amazed at the facts about nuclear waste and how much energy we can save. Intelligently written and powerfully executed. A brilliant plan. Now only if our government leaders would read this.
Paul, New York.

March 26, 2002:
Bill,

I just emailed my brother Frank to read your outstanding article posted at www.Energy Hotwire.com
Phenomenal writing, I really enjoyed it.
Joe, Buffalo New York

Please use this LINK Yesteryear's Blog to peruse the article that knew what needed to be done to prevent serious problems so many years ago. Perhaps today's politician's should also revisit.

Environmental issues, environment, pollution, john glenn high school, Bill Lauto, going green, goingtruegreen, 1972: Tenth Grade Paper
This is the first post of GoingTrueGreen’s NEW Yesteryear Articles and Blogs category. Prior to adding GoingTrueGreen.com with my GoingTrueGreen blog to my work, I posted a Hotwire blog on my EnergyHotwire.com website which was a metamorphosis from my first website originated in 1995 called the Lightbulb Hotline. Before Blogs, I wrote articles for local newspapers or organizations’ newsletters going back to the 1980s. However, my very first discourse on the subject of our environment was back in 1972 when I was in tenth grade. I had to write my first thesis paper for Mrs. Mayer, my tenth grade English teacher at John Glenn High School. She gave the class numerous topics that we could select from and I chose to write about pollution mostly due to a lasting impression that was made on me by a television commercial I saw a few years earlier. I will never forget the tear coming down the face of the actor who represented Native Americans after viewing the ways people littered upon the water and land from his canoe.

Now I recently made a short video summarizing my work and I thought back to my tenth grade report that I haven't read in over 40 years. After locating the report in an old album, I read it again and realized that the message I am speaking today, is the same message I wrote all those years ago! Some messages don't need to change. Follow the LINK below to see the video and some excerpts, introduction and conclusion, from the hand written pages of a 14 year old boy…

Bubbles, Bumps and Blisters

Recycling, Recycle, Blister Packs, Bubble wrap, clamshells, PET, thermoplastic, resin, polymer, plastic ghosts, thermoformed containersFood in Plastic
Today products are protected in packages that use plastic in the shape of bubbles, bumps, and blisters. The products being protected range from tooth brushes to LED light bulbs in these, aka, "Clamshells" of protection. The idea is great because of the extra safeguarding offered when you dropped or bang the blister package. The highly significant impact absorbing ratio of these packages prevents most common breakage. Nevertheless, a great idea can be nothing more than Crab Crap if there is a flaw in the overall equation. Here is why this idea is fundamentally flawed:

More than 60% of American Townships Do Not recycle these thermoformed containers, aka clamshells, aka blister packs. So yes, even though you have been putting all your protective plastic packaging from your purchased products into recycle bins, they are not being recycled. They are still going into landfills.

According to the FTC Green Guide, when more than 60% of American Recycling infrastructures Do Not recycle an item, then that item is deemed "Un-Recyclable" because your municipality is removing these items from the recycling conveyor belt or recovery system to bury them in a landfill where they don't breakdown. The Federal Trade Commission’s Green Guides are designed to help marketers avoid making environmental claims that mislead consumers. However, in this case, we are misled by the process of omission! When a blister pack has no recycle information on it, we take the sensible option and recycle. We believe we are doing the right thing, but because we are not told that our township does not recycle thermoformed containers we are misled and continue to buy products with these protective packages. Once again, consumers, are being "sold a bill of goods!"

Plastic Protection or Tombs?
The irony to all this is that the demand for post-consumer PET exceeds the supply by a tremendous margin. Polyethylene terephthalate, aka PET, is the thermoplastic polymer resin used for containers that hold liquids, fibers that make up clothing, and containers for food. I Do Not use plastic bottles to drink from and I avoid foods in plastic or cans due to the possible BPA contaminants  If you wish to learn more, please consider taking my online workshop on WATER. Classes start September, 2016.

Additionally, Bonnie who is a follower of Going True Green's blog for many years, shared an artist's exhibit created to demonstrate the impact of these blister packs that are not recyclable. You may wish to visit an article with photos on the exhibit at: A Tomb for the Plastic Ghosts We Leave Behind.
