A short article that I wrote on fluorescent bulbs was published in This Week's newspaper in Mastic, New York. Below is that article:
Energy, Money and You
by Bill Lauto
Modern Compact Fluorescent bulbs will save you money and America oil. An 18-watt Compact Fluorescent bulb gives the same amount of light and warmtone color as your old-fashioned 75 watt incandescent bulb. It will last 10 times longer and when it burns out, you'll have saved almost one barrel of oil along with $79.80 off your electric bill.
Though they were designed in 1981, these energy saving bulbs are still not readily available to the public. Just by changing light bulbs, we can make a difference. Power companies are offering programs to help sell these bulbs, but unfortunately, they offer a small selection. Prices rang from $10 to $24.
For information, service, selection and prices for buying these energy saving bulbs, call the Light Bulb Hotline at (516) 822-BULB (2852), operated by Environmental, Energy and Lighting Consultants, between 8am and 6pm Monday through Friday.
