Low Pressure Sodium, LPS, lamps produce full lumen output in all ambient temperatures. They operate more coolly than other light sources and thus reduce the load on refrigeration systems in cold storage locations.
The 80,000 square foot Allegheny Cold Storage warehouse in Pittsburgh saved almost $20,000.00 a year by converting their former fluorescent system to LPS.
