Almost 95% of California is in a Drought People, farmers, crops and animals are all suffering from California's severe drought emergency that is occurring after three years of rainfall being below normal.
Almost 95% of California is dealing with these choking drought conditions. The rain storms that swept across California at the end of February did ease some reservoirs deficits, yet mandatory restrictions may come into play by the start of springtime.

As bad as this drought is, I have wondered if this could be a blessing in disguise. My Blog posting called Nuclear Reality Check on January 27, 2014 talks about the radiation issues created by Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear energy plants that exploded in 2011 after the tsunami hit that country. Current reports show information about Sea Lions, Polar Bears, Bald Eagles, Sea Stars, Turtles, King and Sockeye Salmon, Herring, Anchovies and Sardines are dying or suffering off the coast of Alaska and California. Thus, the possibility of contaminated rain falling onto crops growing in California is a overwhelming probability. So perhaps, just perhaps, the lack of rain has kept a detrimental level of Japan's nuclear plant's radiation out of California's food supply and soil.
Farmland in Northern California To place things into perspective, don't think the East Coast of the United States isn't affected. The bounty produced by California's farms is enjoyed by everyone in America and many other countries. California grows nearly half of all U.S. fruits, vegetables and nuts. Over eighteen billion dollars in exports to other countries is solely California and over seven percent of America's revenue from livestock. Do you buy fish? Most fish caught in the United States comes from the waters off the coast of California and Alaska.
Now I do not believe anyone wants to buy food with any amount of radioactive contamination. Yet, some people still think nuclear power is safe. Thus, we have become our own worst enemy.
We came close to destroying America's largest food supplier this time, but all I can say is thank you God for protecting us here in America by holding back on the west coast rains these past few years.
So to those who say it never rains in southern California, I tell you this: As soon as rain can fall again on California without any radioactive waste, it will, and California will come back stronger than ever.
