Dr. Schwartz Earth Day 2016, has a population of over seven billion humans and we are all using more energy than ever before. We had nine of the ten hottest years recorded in the last fifteen years. Our oceans are more acidic than ever recorded and our atmosphere has unprecedented amounts of carbon dioxide.
My previous Going True Green blog stated that this post will be about America's Future. The other week I spoke to several students at Sigma Pi Sigma's induction ceremony for the Physics department at St. John's University. Students who will be part of our world's future and solutions. While I was one of three invited speakers, the Key Note speaker was Dr. Stephen Schwartz, a senior scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory and principal investigator in the Department of Energy Atmospheric System Research Program. His research centers on the influences of energy related emissions on our climate.
Dr. Schwartz's presentation provided facts on how our energy consumption is connected to climate change and he was an excellent catalyst for the attending students to start thinking anew. Afterwards when I spoke, I provided some initial steps that implement energy saving solutions to reduce our energy consumption and without sacrifice.

Dr. Schwartz invited me to Brookhaven National Lab to attend his colleague Ernie Lewis' lecture about "What Will Earth Be Like In 50 Years?" With data and developing models of Earth's complex climate systems from Brookhaven Lab's Environmental & Climate Sciences Department, Ernie Lewis first took us back in time 50 years. In the 1960s City skylines disappeared in smog, rivers were polluted and America's eagle was almost wiped out. Nevertheless, our team work brought about solutions and recovery. Lessons we need today to face the world wide challenges of tomorrow.

The students of today need to look no further than the research being done by Dr. Schwartz and Ernie Lewis at Brookhaven National Labortory because they are the foundation and catalyst for tomorrow's solutions.
