I am done with buying crap that doesn't last, I am making my on grill with fire bricks and parts from my old grill. My grandparents built their own grills and pizza ovens!
So will I and here is why:
New grill: $200.00 (3 to 5 year life)
Tank fill up: $20.00 (two fill ups per year, $40.00)
Generic Cover to save money: $29.00 (lasted 2.5 years)
Manufacturer's Cover to last longer: $47.00 (lasted less than 2 years)
Also note that a date is stamped on the collar of each gas tank for when it was made. With a 20 pound propane tank you have 12 years before the tank needs to be re-certified. Then you must re-certify every 5 years. The cost of a new certified tank almost always costs less than re-certification.
VS
Costs for material to build BBQ: $200.00 (my labor, will last 50 years)
Apple Wood Pellets: $29.00 for 40 pounds. (1.5 bags per year)
I will not use coal, too many carcinogens.
Box of Stick Matches: $3.96 for 300 (will last years)
I think in the long run, this will not only save money, but be much more sustainable while helping our environment. Now, I am done with this BBQ blog.
