For decades I have been speaking about Hydrogen Fuel Cells making the world's energy on demand. Today, a new term has become popular: Green Hydrogen

WHAT IS GREEN HYDROGEN?

The answer is the same as what I wrote about over the years, now it is just being said like this:
Green Hydrogen will be the alternative to batteries. Created with an emission-free process, such as one or two solar panels for Free sun light, some Free rain water, and a system that takes the electric energy from the solar panels to use electrolysis that splits the hydrogen from the oxygen molecules in that rain water.

Hydrogen made on demand, is the best application where batteries are not suited to transport heavy loads. Also with Hydrogen we have fast refueling times, greater distance traveled, and zero emissions!

Green Hydrogen will decarbonize the power grid and these applications should start within twenty-five years as cost limitations are removed with more research in water electrolyzer technology. Research and Development, along with innovations, will be key to this time frame. Many component manufacturers recognize these key trends for their products that contribute to the green hydrogen industry. Wind Turbine Blade Delivery Delayed

Most of us have received those scam messages about a delivery for a product we never ordered being delayed or held up because of a wrong address or an incomplete packaging label. These scammers just hope we click on their link or call them so they can steal data from us.

However, what would you do if you ordered a replacement wind turbine blade and received this message:

"We're sorry, but the delivery of your one football field long fiberglass
wind turbine blade has been delayed. If you still wish to obtain your blade, with some damage, please contact the Maryland State Highway Administration to schedule a time to pick up your blade on I-70 (Interstate Highway 70), by I-80."

With all joking aside, when we fail to realize all the connecting components to a so called solution, we open ourselves up to the risk of having more issues unsolved, than solved. Additionally, one person was taken to the hospital, who had non-life-threatening injuries, when this occurred in June.

The size of wind turbine blades is literally longer than a football field. How can we manage putting one of these on a truck a driving down the road for delivery? I guess the same way we manage to fill a ship with oil and risk Nevertheless, that is what we do. Thus, after the wind turbine blade came free from the belts that secured the blade to the truck, one person was injured on Interstate 70 in Maryland, Washington County, as per the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA).

The tractor trailer was traveling westbound on I-70 when the blade came loose and hit a guardrail. The accident caused the blade to go into the eastbound lanes and hit by a tractor trailer heading eastbound.
This crash mandated that all westbound lanes of 1-70 be closed. Additionally, two eastbound lanes located at I-81 were closed by 5:30 in the morning. If this occurred just a little later with Rush Hour placing many more vehicles on the road, the number of people injured could have been much higher.

All this can be seen in a photo capturing the scene with a Maryland Department of Transportation camera, showing the blade in the middle of the interstate, impacting traffic going both ways. Only after heavy tow trucks were called in and the guardrail was cut out, crews were able to back up the trailer truck to place the wind turbine blade back on the truck's bed. After three hours the highways were opened again to traffic. The blade was driven to Maryland Route 63 and parked on the first extra wide shoulder according to SHA.

Looking for the Marine Stewardship Council’s (MSC) label and more details in order to understand what this label is all about. The best place to start is their Website. The LINK is embedded in the name above.

Over 35 countries world wide have approximately one thousand products with the MSC label. The Marine Stewardship Council uses an independent third-party to verify all certification. Seafood such as salmon and cod are part of the products supplied by almost 100 fisheries involved with the MSC label.

The MSC label offers insurance that the marine products supplied are from a process that maintain the marine environment’s biodiversity, productivity and ecology. Additionally, the catch yield must be reconcilable with long-term sustainability.

What Constitutes a Heatwave?

When I was a kid growing up in Brooklyn New York, I remember the hot days of summer because no matter what the temperature was, we were outside playing on the slate and cement sidewalk or the blacktop of a playground. We played Yo-Yos, Stoop Ball, Punch Ball, Stick Ball, Corks, Tag, and we spun Tops. Also since Hide and Seek was for little kids, (I was around nine years old) I made up the game Hide and Hunt. The difference allowed each person hiding from the Hunter to keep changing hiding spots or stay on the move to avoid being found. Now if you need me to explain what the game Corks, Yo-Yos, or Stoop Ball is all about, then you are too young or just not a city kid. Also when we became bored, which was rare, we played, "What Do You Want To Do? I Don't Know, What Do You Want To Do?" This was basically a game where you asked the question over and over again as you pushed the person you asked. That was it.

Medic's Bag used in Pacific Theater, WW2

We all drank water from my Great Uncle's garden hose, after running the water until it became cold. My Great Uncle was a Medic during World War Two in the Pacific. Actually, he was a pharmacist who just graduated from St. John's University before being called by the Uncle Sam to be a Medic. He was the one that taught us to wait until the water was cold, because warm water would have bacteria and make us sick. He was always on the "look out" for us kids on the block. As a Medic in the war he shared few stories, and those that he did tell, were only heard when he spoke of them when he was very old. He didn't want to lose any kid on our block, and we were a completely diversified bunch of kids. Yet, the fear of germs in warm water, drugs, gangs, or street traffic, kept him as our lookout. Yet one friend, a little girl, was hit by a car when she ran into the street after her ball. He suffered greatly from not be able to save people and things. He was haunted by the fact that he could not save most of the wounded soldiers in the war. He said late in life, "...all I did was pick up body parts. Morphine powder and bandages were of no use." At the end of the war, all my great uncle received was a pat on the back, there was no psychological support back then.

One hot summer, a new song came out called, We Are Having A Heatwave by an America Motown group called Martha and the Vandellas, in 1963. I was only five years old when the song came out, but remember singing it with friends on the front stoop on hot afternoons many summers afterwards. We were kids and had no idea the song was about a relationship between a couple.

So by now I have digressed with somewhat related stories to this Going True Green blog post... What Constitutes a Heatwave? But have yet to speak about what makes up a Heatwave. So let us get to it...

According to many Electrical Utilities, a heatwave is declared after three (3) days in a row with the temperature at 88 degrees Fahrenheit or above. However, there is no single rule to determine when a heatwave is occurring. Factors such as the duration of hot weather, high temperatures, and humidity levels come into play, especially for the National Weather Service (NWS) for issuing Excessive Heat Warnings. These warnings may not be linked to a heatwave, because the warning could be for only 12 hours since the evening temperatures would drop significantly to cool down the weather. Keep in mind that humidity exacerbates how hot us humans feel, and comes into play when calculating a heat index. Additional factors are stagnant air, cloud cover, and wind speeds.

Therefore, when you hear some Meteorologists, public Health official, or Reporter, stating we are in a heatwave based on a definition stating at least two days of heat in a row to mandate the heatwave, many other definitions will say three days. Additionally, what may be conducive of a heatwave for the northeast, can easily be laughable by naturally hotter climates, such as in Phoenix, Arizona.

For the most part, many now consider temperatures reaching or exceeding 90 degrees Fahrenheit for three consecutive days as a heatwave. What Food Are You Growing ?

I teach Survival Training, and the first item to know is the "Rules of Three" so you can set priorities.

What do we need in 3 minutes, where if we didn't have any, we would die? If we are not underwater, and we have plenty of oxygen, then the first rule is secured.
What do we need in 3 hours, where if we didn't have any, we would die? If we have a roof over our heads for shelter and we can stay warm to prevent hyperthermia, then the second rule is secured.
What do we need in 3 days, where if we didn't have any, we would die? If we have clean drinkable water, then the third rule is secured.

The next rule will ask the question, What do we need in 3 weeks, where if we didn't have any, we would die? That is why I am asking what food are you growing this summer?

Being able to grow our own food in a garden, rooftop, of windowsills, offers all of us a powerful gift where we can grow some food for ourselves!

Even a business or corporations that have lawns or rooftop space, which cost them money to maintain, could be making money by having the space or land yield a crop such as organic corn. For most parts of America there are two crops of corn per year based on the weather. Every time I see a half acre or more of grass, and more grass, I see a waste compared to what God's Green Earth can yield for us in food. If everyone did what they could, we would have no need for Genetically Modified Food to feed the masses, because the masses will be feeding themselves. Thus we could delete hunger in our country, in our world.

The only other thing we all need to survive, is love and support. Everything else is a... Want.

Buying Eggs Ethically, Is That Possible?

Comparing the difference between factory farm free-range eggs and the backyard chicken version of free-range is big. Bigger than big, it is Hugh.

Many would say that millions of animals are enduring miserable lives so humans can consume chicken, eggs, milk, and meat. Also intensive farming can support the avian (bird) flu. Keeping birds in tight quarters, their own waste, and eating antibiotic-laced food, along with insects, can add to avian flu outbreaks.

If you are fortunate enough to be able to buy eggs from a small farm or someone raising chickens the old way, then do so. All the labels stamped on an egg carton will never tell the complete story. Best to see the complete situation with your own eyes when buying from a small local farm. Also if possible, see what your town codes allow. You may be able to have your own chickens and even a goat!

We Are All Drinking Micro-Plastic!

Not Just Water Bottles! Got Milk?

Years ago we all became concerned when the media finally wrote about BPAs in plastic. Action to remove the chemical from Baby Bottles took precedent, plastic used by adults had a much slower implementation. Next came coverage about how plastic bottles are not being recycled as successfully as we all believed.

Now today, the media has finally caught up with microscopic plastic particles only because of a study recently done by Rutgers University. The study was published in the prestigious Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, (PNAS).

Researchers used a new technique incorporating lasers that are able to detect plastic particles down to the size of 100 nanometers. The study analyzed the plastic water bottles and screw caps of three popular brands. The results found that bottled water "can" contain a much higher number of microscopic plastics than previously thought. An amount ranging from 110,000 to 370,000 particles per liter and 90% was nanoplastic particles.

What Does This Mean?
Each time you open and unscrew the plastic cap of a water bottle, nano pieces of plastic are breaking off and going into the water. As we drink the water, we are consuming these nanoplastics!

What Is The Concern?
Another study just published in NATURE found alarmingly high levels of microplastics in the brains of individuals who had died with dementia, and Alzheimer's disease. Researchers also found that brain tissue samples from 2024 had significantly higher concentrations of microplastics compared to samples from 2016. The amounts of micro plastic particles found in the brains of dementia patients were 10 times higher than healthy individuals.

A Plastic Hand Grenade?

Not Just Water Bottles!
Back in December on 2017, 8 years ago, I wrote a GTG blog about this concern. We have a full onslaught of these nanoplastic particles getting into our bodies from just about everything. Does any family member or friend drink milk? Do they unscrew that center plastic cap and then pull the pin? That Hand Grenade plastic pin?

How many nanoplastic particles are going into our milk?!

What was wrong with the old way we opened our milk cartons?
STOP using the center plastic cap with the hand grenade plug!
STOP buying the clear plastic milk containers! Plastic cap is still an issue and the clear container allows LIGHT to break-down the vitamin D in the Milk.

Peel Back and Pour !

Solution:
Peel back the corners of the cardboard carton and pour the way we always did years ago!

STOP using plastic pill containers. Get small glass jars with metal screw-on covers.
STOP using plastic cups, get steel containers or glass with protective silicone wrap on the bottle.
STOP using plastic lunch boxes, get cloth insulated bags or compartment packs.

I think the above examples set the idea of what we have to do for ourselves, loved ones, friends, and strangers, because we do not know all of the longterm issues with nano plastics.

Malnutrition

In the 1960s Batman and Robin were on American TVs solving crime, while real famous people were on TV Talk Shows predicting the world will not have enough food to feed the masses by the 1990s. A prediction that did not come true, thank God, because the earlier work of William Godwin and Marquis de Condorcet was correct, and Thomas Robert Malthus' theory, was incorrect.

However today, while less people die of starvation, our world has almost 9 million people die each year of malnutrition related diseases. Yet, we have enough food in this world to feed all 8.2 billion humans. The project called Zero Hunger by the year 2030 has some stating that the project will need additional time based on current statistics of progress. One estimate claims 100 more years are needed to accomplish that goal. I myself, do not have all the data to know what is true or not true with those estimates and/or predictions.

What has gone wrong, and why are we falling short of preventing anyone from going hungry. As I have written many times before in previous Going True Green blogs about the progress towards our answer for the world's energy needs, the answer to the question - What has gone wrong? - is the same: GREED.

Hydrogen fuel cells that work on demand to make world wide free energy from free rainwater, and free sunlight, will eliminate all monthly bills. Therefore, we do not see this solution, because there's no money to be made. All energy sources we have today are a transition to the hydrogen fuel cell answer. The same holds true for supplying food to those in need. The solution will be a transition until we're able to establish the neighborhoods in need to support themselves with growing crops and having a sufficient food supply.

So what's the solution for malnutrition in this world? We have enough food, we have the technology to produce more food, delicious food, or not so delicious. Healthy food or not so healthy food. Nevertheless, the solution has to be a transition toward the ability for many of us to be contributing in a small way or larger way to the food supply. As for myself, I do what I can with the little property I have. However, what I do, can also be done on the rooftop of an apartment building or in a vacant lot. Even growing something by windowsills will help.

As for the malnutrition problem our world suffers, we need to put greed aside and actions such as the following need to take place; but first let us look at what we have so that we may evaluate the complete picture for a solution.

Freeze dried food was a technology needed by NASA.
Restaurants around the world throw away leftover food that some calculate can feed everyone who is hungry, every day, several times over.
Companies today make computers and cell phones that can print out labels in multiple languages.
Areas of Asia and Africa, where malnutrition is at the worst levels, are at remote parts of the world.
We have entities, such as the United States post office, making deliveries with half filled trucks and planes to major distribution centers.
We have technology used by the military to AirDrop, just about anything, on a landing site the size of a helicopter’s landing pad.

Therefore, we need an organized initiative between all the countries of the world so that the following talents can be implemented:

NASA or a private corporation needs to develop a small, fast, and efficient piece of equipment that can be utilized by any restaurant to freeze dry unused food.

Well established restaurants will partake in a program that allows for weekly pick up of their freeze dried leftover food that is clearly labeled with specific data and in all languages spoken along all routes.

Cell phone and computer companies can produce a small and efficient system that can be maintained at any restaurant to print out labels with all significant data relating to the freeze dried food in multiple languages.

Here in the United States, the United States post office, or any private company will facilitate the weekly pick ups of the freeze dried food so that they can be processed through distribution centers for delivery to neighborhoods in need.

For remote area deliveries, distribution will go to appropriate military bases where they will contribute by combining training missions with freeze dried food airdrops for all remote areas.

The last action will combine students from around the world that are studying in the fields such as agriculture, land management, engineering, composting, water management, weather, energy, insect control, storage, environmental, distribution, etc. So that they can work as a team for neighborhoods ready to establish their own sustainable means to grow, produce, and supply food. This is most necessary because people do not want to eat freeze dried food forever.
